FAQ on the application process
The programme advisory board of the Leibniz Leadership Academy selects the participants in line with defined criteria.
No, only in response to calls for applications. We usually send out the call for applications with a link to the online form to institute directors 4–6 months before the programme start date. At the same time, we inform those in charge of personnel development and career support and publish the deadlines on our website and in the LinkedIn group.
One application per institute can be submitted in response to each call. The institutes make a preliminary selection and then forward the link to the online application internally. On the application form we ask for your contact details, institute, position, etc. and for information about your leadership situation and your motivation:
- Please summarize your leadership experience (2–3 sentences)
- Why do you want to take part in the Leibniz Leadership Academy programme? (5–6 sentences)
- What programme outcome would you regard as a success?
Our programmes take place outside of school holidays. If needed, you can claim reimbursement of childcare costs when taking part in the programme. The Leibniz Academy follows the recommendations of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs in connection with § 10 of the German Equality Act. For reasons of economy, please be responsible and prudent when making use of this support option.
You can claim for costs if
- the costs would not have arisen if you were not taking part in the Leibniz Leadership Academy programmes, and
- your usual childcare provisions are not sufficient or cannot be used, and
- the children are not older than 14.
We can reimburse up to €25 per hour, up to a maximum of €250 per day. The maximum that can be claimed in a year is the tax-free amount for these kinds of benefits (currently €600).
Travel and accommodation costs can be reimbursed in the following cases:- If a carer looks after the child free of charge in the child’s home, the travel costs they incur can be reimbursed.
- If the child is looked after at the carer’s home, the costs incurred in dropping off and collecting the child can be reimbursed.
- If the child is looked after at the event location, the child’s travel and accommodation costs can be reimbursed, as well as additional costs (e.g. for a cot).
- If the child is cared for privately at the event location, travel and accommodation costs for an accompanying carer can be reimbursed.
- Reimbursements are based on the German Travel Expenses Act. In line with the above provisions, there is a maximum limit of €600 for these costs too.
Applying for reimbursement and submitting expenses
Applications for reimbursement can be submitted in an informal email, including a short justification, to akademie(at)leibniz‐gemeinschaft.de. This should be done in plenty of time before the programme starts and should include the estimated amount. To submit expenses for reimbursement, please send the original receipts using the reimbursement form from Leibniz Headquarters.
You will receive a certificate of attendance for the Developing Leadership, Experiencing Leadership or Reflecting on Leadership programme if you have attended 2/3 of the programme events.
